Full Privacy Policy

1. Overview

The Sonar respects your privacy and collects only the information necessary to operate and improve the publication. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and what choices you have.

2. What information we collect

We collect only limited information required to run The Sonar.

This includes:

  • Email address — when you voluntarily subscribe to a newsletter.
  • Email engagement data — whether an email was opened, as provided by our email delivery service.
  • Aggregate link click data — collected when links in newsletters redirect through The Sonar before reaching external content.

We do not collect:

  • device type,
  • browser information,
  • fingerprinting data,
  • cross-site tracking data,
  • location data beyond what is strictly required for email delivery.

3. How we use your information

We use collected information to:

  • Send newsletters you explicitly subscribed to.
  • Maintain and improve the quality of the publication.
  • Understand, at an aggregate level, which topics and links are useful to readers.
  • Improve editorial selection and reduce noise.

Your email address is used only for The Sonar newsletters and closely related updates.

We do not:

  • send spam,
  • add subscribers to unrelated mailing lists,
  • use email addresses for advertising or behavioral profiling.

4. Email delivery and engagement tracking

Emails are sent using Kit, an email delivery provider.

Kit may record whether an email was opened. This information is used only as a general engagement signal and is not treated as a precise or individual metric.

Every email includes an unsubscribe link, which immediately stops further emails.

5. Link tracking

Links included in newsletters may redirect through The Sonar before leading to external websites.

This is used to:

  • count total link clicks,
  • understand which content is useful,
  • detect broken or unsafe links,
  • improve future content selection.

Link tracking is evaluated only in aggregate and is not used to identify or profile individual readers.

6. Cookies and tracking technologies

We do not use advertising cookies.

We do not use cross-site tracking.

We do not use fingerprinting or third-party advertising trackers.

Any tracking used is limited to operating and improving the publication.

7. Third-party services

The Sonar relies on a small number of third-party services to operate, including:

  • Kit — for email delivery and basic engagement statistics.
  • Infrastructure and hosting providers.

These services act as data processors, not data owners, and process data only as necessary to provide their services.

We do not sell, rent, or disclose email addresses or personal data to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

8. Data storage and retention

Email addresses are stored securely.

Access is limited to what is necessary to operate the publication.

Data is retained only as long as needed to provide the service or until you unsubscribe.

9. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • access your personal data,
  • request deletion,
  • withdraw consent.

You can exercise these rights by contacting privacy@thesonar.cc.

10. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as The Sonar evolves. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
